Aghwotu of Urhoboland, of blessed memory
The late Chief Johnson Modika Barovbe JP remains one of the most revered figures associated with Urhobo Social Club, Lagos. As a former President and later Chairman of the Board of Trustees, he embodied the club's elder-statesman tradition, combining cultural pride, education, leadership and advocacy for Urhobo unity.
During his active years he championed the need for a centralised and vibrant UPU branch in Lagos, serving Urhobos across Lekki, Victoria Island, Surulere, Apapa and Ikeja. He called for closer engagement among Urhobo leaders, clubs, women, youth groups and diaspora communities, and appeared prominently at USCL's intellectual, cultural and community events.
Honoured with the cultural title Aghwotu of Urhoboland, and as Managing Director of Westminster College, Lagos, he reflected the club's belief that Urhobos in Lagos must remain organised, united and connected to the wider Urhobo nation. His legacy endures.

USCL is a distinguished body of Urhobo professionals, entrepreneurs, public servants, legal practitioners, academics, accountants, hospitality leaders, community advocates and cultural custodians.
